The subscribers of BSNL enjoyed the best fixed Internet performances in India during 2024.
For this analysis, 371,937 tests carried out with the nPerf web speed test and in the nPerf app (Android and iOS) have been taken into account in India, when these app tests have been carried out connected to a Wi-Fi network, by users in India from the country’s main operators, between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.
The nPerf score takes into account the measured speeds, the latency and the streaming and browsing tests. The value of the points for the rates and the latency is calculated on a logarithmic scale, to better represent the perception of the user. nPerf offers accurate data independent of Internet providers.
BSNL leads across most metrics with Best download speed (74 Mb/s) in 2024.
Jio (65.5 Mb/s) has been ranked second in this indicator, with 8 Mb/s less than BSNL.
Download speed
Indicates the amount of data a connection can receive in one second from the nPerf server. The highest the measured value, the best is the speed of the connection. Download speeds greater than 25 Mb/s are classified as excellent, enabling activities such as 4K video streaming.
The average download speed in India has been 67 Mb/s, between July 2023 and June 2024.
Best latency (37 ms) in 2024
The latency describes how responsive the connection is. Lower latency translates to more immediate interaction with content. Latency is measured in milliseconds (ms). 31-100 ms supports optimal Internet performance with minimal delay.
Best browsing performance in 2024
BSNL emerged as the leading provider for web browsing with an efficiency rate of 61%, equivalent to an average page load time of 3.9 seconds.
Good Browsing: Scores between 50% and 75% are adequate for general browsing.
Jio: strong in Youtube streaming
Jio secures the second position, showing solid performance in Youtube streaming with a score of 77%. This makes Jio a competitive option for users who prioritize high-quality streaming services.
A score between 75% and 100% indicates smooth video streaming.
The streaming test evaluates YouTube streaming quality by conducting assessments at three different resolutions: 360p (Standard Definition), 720p (High Definition), and 1080p (Full High Definition). The overall rating is derived from an average of these three tests, ensuring a comprehensive measure of streaming performance across varying levels of video quality.
Conclusion
The Indian telecommunications market is led by BSNL, which excels in latency, download and upload speeds, and web browsing. Jio follows in second place with strong Youtube streaming capabilities. Airtel lags behind in the last position, struggling to keep up with its rivals. This competitive landscape provides users with various options based on their specific needs, whether they prioritize speed, streaming quality, or overall reliability.
The nPerf study is based on thousands of tests carried out exclusively by the operators’ end-customers, making it one of the largest “crowdsourced” studies in the country. These tests reflect the real experience of the general public in India on the various Internet networks.
The study employs a strong filtering method to reflect real customer experiences on a specific network (mobile or fixed line). Measures are taken to prevent probes and measurement robots from affecting the results.
